5-Detector Bypass Test Results (April 2026)
We ran the same 500-word ChatGPT essay through each tool at maximum intensity, then tested the output against five detectors. Each score represents the percentage of runs that returned a "human" or below-threshold result, averaged across 10 test runs. Higher is better.
| Detector | ToHuman | Undetectable AI | HIX Bypass | Humbot | WriteHuman | StealthGPT | QuillBot |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|

| 5-detector average | 83% | 78% | 75% | 72% | 71% | 76% | 39% |
Results are averages from 10 test runs per tool at maximum intensity. Detection outcomes vary by input, model version, and detector updates. QuillBot is a paraphrasing tool, not a dedicated humanizer — included for reference. Test date: April 2026.
Readability: Flesch-Kincaid Scores
Bypass rates are only half the picture. A tool that passes detectors but produces awkward, stilted text fails on manual review. We measured Flesch Reading Ease scores after maximum-intensity rewrites. The target range for general web and academic prose is 60–70.
- Original ChatGPT output: 42 — college-level, robotic
- ToHuman (heavy): 67 — natural, in-range, undergraduate-appropriate
- HIX Bypass: 63 — solid, consistent
- Undetectable AI: 61 — good, occasional stiffness
- Humbot: 59 — leans formal, near the lower edge
- WriteHuman: 58 — slightly formal
- StealthGPT: 55 — inconsistent, sometimes colloquial, sometimes stiff
- QuillBot (paraphrase mode): 51 — modest improvement from original
ToHuman produces the most natural rewrites: varied sentence lengths, appropriate vocabulary distribution, and no obvious patterns that signal post-processing on a human read-through. StealthGPT's inconsistency is the most noticeable problem — it sometimes overcorrects into colloquial language that itself reads as unnatural.
Pricing: True Cost at Scale
For a realistic content volume of 100,000 words per month, here's what each tool actually costs:
- ToHuman: $0 during launch. Paid plans from $9/mo (30K words). API included.
- Humbot: ~$29.99/mo for 100K words. Basic API on paid tiers.
- Undetectable AI: $49.99/mo for 100K words. No API. Total at 100K/mo: ~$600/yr.
- WriteHuman: ~$39/mo for 100K words (estimated). No API. Total at 100K/mo: ~$468/yr.
- HIX Bypass: ~$44.99/mo for 100K words. API on paid tiers.
- StealthGPT: ~$32/mo for 100K tokens. API available at this tier. Total: ~$384/yr.
- QuillBot: $8.33/mo unlimited paraphrasing. Not a humanizer — low bypass rates at this price.
At any volume, ToHuman is the cheapest option with no tradeoff on bypass rates. The combination of highest bypass rate, lowest price, and only free API is unusual — it reflects ToHuman being newer and in a launch phase, not a product cut corner.
Tool-by-Tool Analysis
1. ToHuman — Best Overall
Best for: developers, automation, students, content teams — anyone who values bypass rates, price, or API access.
ToHuman uses a fine-tuned Mistral 7B model trained on paired AI/human text samples. It rewrites at a structural level — sentence construction, vocabulary distribution, paragraph rhythm — rather than swapping synonyms. This explains its bypass rate advantage: detectors look for statistical patterns, and structural rewrites disrupt those patterns more effectively than surface substitutions.
The API is live and documented. You can integrate it into LangChain workflows, n8n automations, Make.com pipelines, or any HTTP client. Four intensity levels let you calibrate the rewrite depth per document type.
Weakness: No built-in detector to verify results. You'd need to paste output into GPTZero or Turnitin manually, or use the detection checker on the homepage.
2. Undetectable AI — Best Detector Dashboard
Best for: users who want to verify their output against multiple detectors without switching tabs.
Undetectable AI has the largest user base in the category and a multi-detector dashboard that checks GPTZero, Turnitin, and others simultaneously. For users who need to see verification before submitting work, this is genuinely useful. Bypass rates are strong — second only to ToHuman in testing.
Weakness: No API. At 100K words/month, it's the most expensive tool on this list. Privacy policy is unclear on data retention. Trustpilot reviews frequently cite billing issues and output quality regression in recent months.
For a full comparison, see Undetectable AI alternatives in 2026.
3. HIX Bypass — Best Value Paid Tier
Best for: users willing to pay but wanting a reasonable mid-range option with a built-in detector.
HIX Bypass is part of the larger HIX.AI product suite. It includes a built-in detector, achieves good bypass rates (third-best in testing), and produces clean, readable output. API access is available on paid tiers, though less capable than ToHuman's.
Weakness: The HIX.AI brand covers many AI writing tools. Text humanization is one feature among many, which means product focus may be diluted. Pricing starts higher than competitors at $14.99/mo.
4. Humbot — Best for Simple Use Cases
Best for: users who want a simple, no-friction web interface without API requirements.
Humbot is a straightforward humanizer with a clean interface and adequate bypass rates (72% 5-detector average). It includes a basic built-in detector and a usable free tier of 500 words/month. It's the best "just works" option for occasional use without technical requirements.
Weakness: Bypass rates lag ToHuman and Undetectable AI on Turnitin (70% vs 79%). API capability is limited. Readability scores are the lowest among dedicated humanizers in this list.
5. WriteHuman — Best Chrome Extension
Best for: browser-based workflows where an inline extension matters.
WriteHuman's Chrome extension is its most distinct feature — it lets you humanize text directly inside Google Docs, Gmail, or any web editor. The web interface is clean and the price is reasonable. Bypass rates are the lowest of the dedicated humanizers in testing.
Weakness: No intensity control (single mode), no API (promised since early 2026, still unshipped), limited free tier. See the full WriteHuman alternatives comparison for more detail.
6. StealthGPT — Best API Alternative (Paid)
Best for: developers who need an API and are willing to pay $32+/month for it.
StealthGPT offers one of the few actual developer APIs in this category, available on its $32+/month tier. Bypass rates are solid (76% 5-detector average). If ToHuman's API didn't exist, StealthGPT would be the primary API-enabled option.
Weakness: Expensive for API access. Readability scores are inconsistent. Less transparent about model architecture. At $32+/mo, the API costs more than ToHuman's entire paid tier.
7. QuillBot — Not a Humanizer
Best for: paraphrasing and grammar improvement, not AI detection bypass.
QuillBot is included here because it frequently appears in AI humanizer searches and comparisons. It is a paraphrasing tool, not a dedicated humanizer. Its 39% average bypass rate confirms this — synonym swapping doesn't disrupt the statistical patterns that detectors use. At $8.33/mo, it's affordable, but it's the wrong tool for the job.

Why Most AI Humanizers Fail
The weak performers in this test — QuillBot in particular — share a common failure mode: synonym substitution. Modern AI detectors don't look for specific words. They look for the statistical distribution patterns, burstiness, perplexity, and sentence length variance that characterize AI-generated text. Replacing words doesn't change those patterns.
The tools that work reliably — ToHuman, Undetectable AI, HIX Bypass — rewrite at a structural level. They change how sentences are constructed, not just which words appear. Fine-tuned models trained specifically on human-written text learn to reproduce those patterns rather than imperfectly approximating them.
It's also worth understanding the broader context: AI detection tools have a documented false positive problem — flagging legitimate human writing as AI-generated at rates up to 61% for non-native English speakers. Many users reaching for humanizer tools are protecting work they actually wrote, not laundering AI output. The tools that preserve readability (Flesch scores near 65–70) serve both use cases well; the ones that produce stilted rewrites help with one and fail on the other.
How We Tested
Testing methodology: one 500-word ChatGPT-4o essay on a neutral academic topic, processed through each tool at maximum intensity settings. Output tested against each detector 10 times. Scores are percentage of runs returning "human" or below threshold. Flesch scores measured on the same passage using standard Flesch-Kincaid formula. All tests conducted in April 2026. We tested what was publicly available — tools under active development may have changed since.
We built ToHuman, so we're biased toward it. We've tried to acknowledge what competitors do well and be straightforward about where ToHuman falls short (no built-in detector, newer track record, smaller community). The test data is real.
